Persecuting People Who Have not Hurt Anyone is Evil - Nigerian English Resident On Anti-GAY Bill

One of the Nigerians in Diaspora has shown serious concern over the Anti-gay bill newly introduced by the Nigerian government and said it's evil persecuting people who have not hurt anyone. Hear him out below.

I believe it is important to voice your opinions, and I also think it is important to form those opinions based on fact and not just sentiment. Continue reading after this cut...

I live in England and I can tell you for a fact that there are a few world leaders less hated by Vladimir Putin. Russian exports, especially Russian vodka, are being boycotted by a majority of the population and there is a huge campaign to get Coca-Cola to pull its sponsorship from the World Cup if it goes on in Russia. I don't see anyone boycotting Nigeria's exports!

Also, homophobia is NOT African. It, like a lot of other things we identify as 'African', was actually imposed on our continent by Western and Middle Eastern religions from the period of colonialism. Don't believe me? Research the story of the Ugandan King Mwanga. A lot of the homophobic laws in African nations' constitutions also came from the colonial era, not after. The West taught us to hate, but they have learned to love and yet we still hold on to the hatred as our traditional values. I say the joke is on us!
And I think this law is unnecessary! How many Nigerian homosexuals have you heard coming out and saying they want to get married?

These people are living their lives peacefully and not causing harm to anyone and we are going on witch hunts. We are lynching two adults on the streets who have consensual sex in the privacy of their own bedrooms but leave those who are stealing food out of our mouths to go scot free.

Did you guys not read of the pastor who was ran out of the country for holding a gay congregation? Simple people who only wanted to worship God in their own way. They didn't invite us to their church. They didn't take money from us. Just wanted to meet in their congregation and do their thing 'jejely' and we went on a witch hunt!

Tell me, where is the love in that? The same Bible that we are quoting doesn't it say that a divorcee should not remarry? Yet we celebrate pastors who divorce their wives and remarry. The same Bible, doesn't it talk about stealing, murder, fornication, drunkenness etc? Yet we celebrate these in our culture.

We're talking about Sodom and Gomorrah. Where does the Bible say God destroyed them for being gay? The prophet Isaiah said God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for being wicked and unkind to the poor and widows and strangers. Look around you. Don't they do that in Nigeria? How many people are looking after their poor? The Western governments are taking care of the poor in their societies and we are killing ours, yet we say it is them God will destroy like Sodom and Gomorrah! Lies!

Nothing we are saying or doing is Christian-like. If you were God and you were to choose between the American or British leaders who try to take care of their people (education is free and compulsory, amenities are working, welfare and housing are provided free for the poor, even healthcare is free) and your Nigerian leaders (they want to send people to prison for being gay. that's their legacy) tell me who you will send to Heaven.

Nigerians, wake up and think! This is not what it means to be a Christian. Christians today are ashamed of calling ourselves Christians because of the bad names people are giving us. We have been called to love. Jesus never said anyone should be put in jail. Jesus never denied anyone their rights. Jesus never led a war. Yet we do these evil things in the name of God and we go to sleep at night. That Heaven, how do we expect to get there? Think, Nigerians. Think.

Persecuting people who have not hurt anyone is evil. Plain and simple. Gays aren't the problem with Africa. Africans are the problem with Africa. The Western countries we're condemning are doing far better than us. People aren't dying there because they can't pay medical bills. They don't have such high mortality rates. It's not that difficult for them to eat or find a place to sleep at night. They are not using each other for money-making rituals. These things are happening in our country yet we say gays are our biggest problems.

Our prisons are overcrowded. Men who beat and even kill their wives, child molesters, armed robbers are walking free yet we want to throw good, innocent people in jail for just choosing to love each other. Na we get sense pass!
