The Police in Ebonyi have arrested two suspects in connection with
the alleged kidnap of some All Progressives Congress registration officers in Umuezekeoha, Ezza North LGA on Sunday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Chris Anyanwu (ASP), said
that the suspects were arrested by a team of Special Anti Robbery Squad
of the command along the Enugu-Abakaliki Express road.
“The suspects were arrested with a vehicle belonging to the council
as four other suspects connected with the matter are still at large.
“Our officers are currently on their trail, as efforts have been intensified to arrest them.
“We recovered items like the official vehicle of the council, a bag
containing the academic credentials of one of the suspects and other
items belonging to the APC,” he said. KEEP READING AFTER THIS CUT...
He said that the suspects were helping the command in its investigation to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the act.
“We must not rule out a possible political tussle between the APC and
the PDP so we call on political parties in the state to carry out their
activities within the confines of the law.
“People should be allowed to freely express their choice of interest without molestation,” the PPRO said.
One of the victims, Mr Donatus Omenyi told the News Agency of
Nigeria, that the suspects numbering about six invaded his residence
around 2am on Sunday.
“One of them told me to follow them without resistance or I will be
shot and I told him that it was better I die inside my house than in an
unknown destination.
“He then asked me to give him all APC registration materials in my possession,” he said.
He noted that the hoodlums bundled him into their car, dropped him
and other victims at Ezzamgbo where they were laid inside a gutter and
tortured.
“They later took us to a bush where they said we should start calling
our people to pay the ransom of N3 million for each of us to be
released.
“They said they would eliminate all APC stakeholders in the area and
said that if our people did not pay, the chairman would pay the ransom
as he could not use and dump them,” he said.
Omenyi said that they were released after the hoodlums negotiated
with some stakeholders in the community who reported immediately to the
police.
