Super Eagles goal merchant, Emmanuel Emenike has declared that his target is to surpass the goal scoring feat of the team’s late legend, Rashidi Yekini.
The Fenerbache striker, who had been widely labelled ‘The New Yekini’ told MTNFootball.com that he still has a lot to do to match the records of the late former Shooting Stars hit man who scored Nigeria’s first World Cup goal at the USA ‘94 mundial.
In his words: “Rashidi Yekini’s shoes are still too big for me to wear, I am only doing what I know best for my fatherland and I have not done anything yet. I still have a lot to do to get to the height reached by such a legend.
The fans have to wait before I can accept that tag but for now, I am thinking about making the name ‘Emenike’ bigger than the late legend Rashidi Yekini, but I won’t rush my race. I will keep delivering when I am given the chance to serve my country.”
Emenike who is still basking in the euphoria of the brace he scored against Ethiopia last weekend in Addis Ababa said he was confident the worst result the Eagles would have secured in the away game would be a draw.
“I was so sure that we wouldn’t lose that game and the worst that could have happened would have been a draw. I was waiting for the opportunity at goal and I was calm enough to score. Mind you, I can’t take the glory for that victory it was a collective one, we all fought for the victory,” he said.
On the November 16 return leg in Calabar, Emenike said the Eagles would prepare well for the tie, as the Brazil 2014 ticket has not been won and lost in Addis Ababa.
“Ethiopia are very good and they will be coming to Calabar with other tricks. So we shouldn’t see the victory in Addis Ababa as the end of road. I can tell you that Calabar game will be tougher for us than Addis Ababa. We will be careful and get ready for another big business in Calabar.”
