Google celebrates International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on its homepage

Google has posted a white ribbon bow symbol below the search bar on its homepage to celebrate International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The symbol is dedicated to initiatives taken by the UN Women organization for the eradication of violence against women worldwide. Clicking on the symbol navigates directly to the UN Women organization’s website (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Women Empowerment), which works on issues related to violence against women and girls across the world.

One might not have noticed the symbol on Google’s homepage, considering that it is displayed unlike Google’s usual way when it posts a more prominent interactive and colorful doodle dedicated to a person, cause or occasion on its homepage.

UN Women marks the date, November 25, for the brutal assassination in 1960 of the three Mirabal sisters, who were the political activists in the Dominican Republic. The day is followed by a  program for Activism against Gender Violence for the next 16 days to curb violence against women worldwide, and ends with Human Rights Day which is celebrated on December 10 every year.
By featuring the white ribbon bow symbol on its wall, Google is helping the organization in promoting this cause for better state of women. Google was recently also seen propagating the women empowerment on children’s day on November 14 in India, and displayed a doodle made by an Indian girl who had won the Google 4 Doodle competition this year.
